The Bleu Ciel Neighborhood Spotlight: The Katy Trail

With an impressive Walk Score of 92, the HARWOOD District has earned the nickname, “The Walk of Life” neighborhood. The new Bleu Ciel skyrise will offer premier, highrise condos right in the heart of this coveted Uptown Dallas community. Residents at Bleu Ciel will be able to walk to some of the city’s best restaurants, shopping, entertainment, and outdoor amenities, including the renowned Katy Trail.

The Trail

Since 2000, the Katy Trail has been the premier Dallas multi-use green space. With more than a million visitors annually, the 30-acre park is an iconic Dallas destination for locals and tourists alike. The previously abandoned rail line running from the American Airlines Center (AAC) to the SMU campus now sees daily use as the favorite Uptown Dallas location for jogging, walking, biking and skating. Although originally slated to be used as part of the DART line, thanks to engaged community members and local businesses, the former rail line was transformed into a greenbelt instead.

The scenic, well-maintained trail is currently 3.5 miles long and connects nearly 125 acres of urban parkland in the Uptown Dallas area, with proposals in place to expand. Today, the Katy Trail owes its continued existence and immaculately maintained grounds to similarly passionate Dallas citizens. Even though the city of Dallas owns the Katy Trial land, the Katy Trail is 100% funded by the Dallas community. The Friends of the Katy Trail, a nonprofit organization, serves as the sole fundraising body for the trail. Through this group of engaged citizens, the Katy Trail has become a true hidden gem in Uptown Dallas.

In addition to serving as the favorite multi-use greenway in the area, The Katy Trail hosts special events throughout the year. From small affairs, like the Mutts and Membership event hosting dog adoptions, to large community events like the Annual Michelob Ultra Katy 5K, there is always something going on along the Katy Trail.
